A New Church?

What is the difference between Kanye West’s Sunday services and the Sunday church services we experience every week?

I really don't think there is much of a difference between the two. Why? Because for a long time, the mainstream churches and Kanye’ new church, have been entertainment focused in their makeup. It has been shaped around what the majority of people want rather than what they need. Discipline or discipleship is missing in our place of worship. Kanye said in one of his songs called “No Church in the Wild”, 'We formed a new religion, No sins as long as there's permission.'

The meaning of this lyric should be a reality check for many of us. Kanye’ statement indicates that the religion he is for is one that permits lawlessness. In many of our assembly, we experience the same thing. The lives of the typical believer are in keeping with this new religion of Kanye’ Sunday service which is not a new religion but an old one.

The church for a long time has been a victim of the world. But now I think the world is a victim of the church. This is because there is no demarcation between the two. Many in the world and in the church don’t know what sin is anymore, and others think it is a city name. The world is a mess because the church is a garbage dump of sinful actions. What is needed a deep clean of how we see God and our doctrine.

The emerging church is lukewarm, with a do what you like and a sin permitting attitude, with a Jesus who will love and blesses us regardless of our lawless behaviour. Someone asked me what was wrong with our churches and my reply to the question is 'what is right with it?'

If we look at how our Messiah is depicted in the world and the church, it is disheartening at times. Jesus’ Kingship has been removed totally; instead of a king, he is pictured as a lowly servant who administrates our wants and wishes. What a contrast in the image we see in the scripture. The truth about my generation is that we lack the knowledge of God, even with so much information and data available to us, which is scary to think.

So what is the solution to the mess we find ourselves in?

The solution is simple, find your true identity, the believer carries a different DNA (Dominion, Nationhood and Authority) to other people. Jesus said, “I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my (ekklesia), and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

What an incredible promise, Jesus said he will build something that the gate of hell will not prevail against. The fact the kingdom of darkness is prevailing against believers should be a cause for concern in our congregations. The reason for this is that we have not allowed Jesus to build his ekklesia; instead, we’ve let men, and women build man centered churches instead.

What's the difference between our churches and Jesus’ ekklesia?
